In-House PublishingAmong the areas on which technology has had the greatest impact is the realm of publishing, in its most general sense, and for this reason it is presented first. This is also the only realm in which computer technology has been widely exploited for liturgy to date. It is well known that the advent of the printing press changed society; it seems that the combination of computers and the availability of high-speed duplicating equipment will have (or perhaps already has had) as powerful an impact. This section presents a bit of history, placing the importance of publishing in context. Then it discusses current ways in which technological innovations are influencing liturgy. This section is prefaced by a brief discussion of why printing Hebrew is so much more difficult than printing English.
